Award Show For The High School Students!

- – - – -

This past Thursday (April 5th) we had the reception for the annual art show for the high school students from the Alpine School District.  The best pieces of work were chosen by all the teachers and featured all across the 3rd floor of the Utah Valley University Library.  The photo above features 14 of the 26 total students who placed and received cash prizes for their art work.  There was over $300.00 in gift certificates handed out to the winners.

Another thank you to the sponsors and donors who made this possible:  Allen’s Camera, Patty’s Ceramics, Provo Art & Frame, and Artist Corner.

This was a dream come true for Pixelnoob.  It was great and we’re already making plans for the summer and for next year.

Save The Date! (High School Students’ Reception)

This Thursday, the reception for the high school students will be held to honor their art.  Ribbons will be awarded to all students who place in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, along with an additional ten honorable mentions, and one best of show.  Those who place will also be given a $10, $15, or $25 gift certificate (depending on their place) to an art store corresponding to their specific medium.

What this means is the 1st place winner for photography will be awarded a 1st place ribbon and a $25.00 gift certificate to Allen’s Camera.

All in all there will be $250 in gift certificates awarded Thursday night.  Over half of this amount was funded solely by Pixelnoob, making our monetary contribution the largest of any other business or organization.  This could not have been made possible without the generous contributions of personal donors.  We sincerely thank you for your support.

In addition, we extend a special thank you to the following businesses who participated:  Artist Corner, Provo Art & Frame, Patty’s Ceramics, Allen’s Camera.

Please join us on the 3rd floor of the Utah Valley University Library from 6:30 – 8:00 pm on this Thursday, April  5th to support the arts and support the students.

Hope to see you there!

Sponsor Number #4, Provo Art & Frame!

Provo Art & Frame made a generous contribution to the students of the Alpine School District today.
Their donation will fund 1st, 2nd,
and 3rd place awards for two separate categories at this years annual art show.

It’s a wonderful sight to see and witness the selfless acts of others to ensure the arts are supported and sustained.

Thanks Provo Art & Frame!

The Power & Potential of One

I witnessed something today that I wanted to share. Though it is not directly related to PIxelnoob, I feel it is appropriate to share because just as Pixelnoob is striving to make a difference, this story is about someone who also made a difference.

I live in a “humble neighborhood”. The streets aren’t the cleanest and often times there is trash strewn about outside the apartments we live in. Recently, my wife and I saw some trash out behind our complex. It had been there a few days, and was somewhat of a nuisance to us; we didn’t like seeing it there.

This morning, however, there was a van that passed our apartment complex and must have seen the trash laying there because immediately after driving by this stranger made a u-turn and parked his car. My wife and I, up to this point, were a bit puzzled by his actions. He then exited his car (fully dressed in what appeared to be his Sunday church clothes), crossed the street, and began picking up the trash that was scattered about the apartment property. After collecting the littered remains he unloaded it into his car and drove away.

My wife and I were flabbergasted. What a selfless thing to do. What a simple and amazing thing that man did.

If there were to be a moral to this story, I’d say it’s that everyone has the potential and ability to make this world a better place than it was yesterday. Even if it is something as small as picking up some trash, because the trash that had been there only a few hours before is no longer there because of the simple act of one man.

We can’t wait for the next great act, we need to be the next great act.

A Successful Art Show!

Well yesterday was the big day for the junior high and middle school students in the Alpine School District.  As spectators filled the 3rd floor of the UVU library you could see the students beaming with pride as people would stop and admire their work.  It was a wonderful site to see.

Ms. Tammy Ballard was the host of the event, and gave every school and student participating a moment in the limelight as they were able to personally showcase their work to the audience.  Though some of the students were a bit shy, you could tell that they were proud to be there; front and center, with their work in hand for all to see.

Pixelnoob was give some special recognition, and founder Kasen Burris was given the opportunity to assist with handing out the prizes for a raffle drawing held at the end of the event.

Recognizing a student’s art work publicly is one of the best ways to ensure their experience with the arts is a positive one.  And assuming it is, they are that much more likely to continue the arts outside the classroom.

Thanks to all those who came and participated.  We hope you’ll join us on April 5th, 2012 from 6:30 – 8:00 on the 3rd floor of the Utah Valley University for the art show featuring the high school students’ work.

Welcome Allen’s Camera, Another Sponsor!

We have been very fortunate.  We spoke with Allen’s Camera in Orem today and they have agreed to hop on board with their support as well.

That puts us at a grand total of three so far; Patty’s Ceramics, Artist Corner, and now Allen’s Camera.  If you’re in the area and looking for materials pertaining to any one of these three businesses, please visit them and show your support.  They have made an invaluable contribution to Pixelnoob, the Alpine School District, and the students.

Another Sponsor!

Welcome Patty’s Ceramics!

Many of the ceramics teachers know Patty’s Ceramics very well.   They supply a large variety of ceramics supplies at a
reasonable price.  Today we had the chance to speak with Patty herself and let her know a little bit about what we were doing.  She also
agreed to hop on board as a sponsor and left us with a generous donation.

Thanks, Patty’s Ceramics!

Upcoming Art Show!

We are excited and very proud to reannounce:

Pixelnoob’s participation in the upcoming 2012 Annual Art Show for the Alpine School District.

It was only a month and a half ago that we contacted the art faculty in the Alpine School District.  As a non-profit, art-advocacy group, we wanted to do anything we could to benefit the arts and the students currently enrolled in those art classes.  Our original idea was to organize an art show for them, but they already had that in the works.  But what they didn’t have, were certificates for the participants, flyers to advertise the event, and funds to provide the students with ribbons and prizes for the artistic contributions.

We went to work.

Things have been coming together wonderfully.  We’re looking forward to the receptions for junior high and middle school students this Thursday, and then the reception for high school students on the 5th of April.

We appreciate all the donations, suggestions, and help we have received thus far, and we look forward to continuing on to ensure that all the youth have a fair opportunity to experience, excel, and succeed in the arts.

Great Opportunity & Some Good Laughs! (3/19/12)

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to head down to Pleasant Grove High to talk to the art faculty from the junior high, middle school, and high schools located in the Alpine School District.

To be honest, I was a little nervous, but my nerves were put at ease as I was warmly received and it proved to be a very beneficial experience.  There was a lot of great feedback and there was even a little comedic relief during the presentation (I threw that belt away the moment I returned home  :) ).

I just want to express my personal thanks to all the participants there.  I’ve noted the ideas that we discussed and look forward to implementing them.

Thanks again guys!

A Special Thanks to Artist Corner (3/17/12)

Well over the weekend we were able to strike a deal with Artist Corner. With a small investment from Pixelnoob, owner Tim Bird was kind enough to provide us with $100.00 in gift cards to his art store.

These gift cards will be used as raffles and awards to the participants in this upcoming art show!

Thanks again to Tim Bird and Artist Corner!
